Chasing Rothko

Chasing Rothko, 36"x36"x1.5" acrylic color field by Victoria Kloch,

Mark Rothko inspired.

What better way for an artist to study color theory then to use Mark Rothko's color fields as inspiration. Over the years of doing just that, I have grown profoundly at awe of his genius. Double challenged by my lack of working space, I am unable use oil medium as they take months to dry. That gave me the push to develop techniques to emulate the oil painting with acrylics. This did not happen overnight. But for me it was well worth the pursuit to find that movement of intense color with vibrating blocks and bands across the canvas. With this piece I am stepping outside of the box, using reds, pinks and bright yellows. Oh, my new found love of these colors are so exciting. Mark Rothko I love you and your teaching continues to live on. Thank you. _Victoria
